Lash Lifts: Pros, Cons and When to Recommend Them
Share
Lash lifts have surged in popularity as a natural alternative to eyelash extensions. During a lift, the natural lashes are curled from base to tip using a lifting solution and a silicone rod. As a seasoned lash artist, I’m often asked whether a lift is right for a client. Here’s what to consider.
**Pros**
• *Enhanced natural beauty:* A lift highlights your client’s own lashes, making them look longer and eyes appear more awake without the need for extensions.
• *Low maintenance:* Unlike extensions, lash lifts don’t require daily cleansing routines or regular infill appointments. Clients can wash their face and wear mascara as normal.
• *Quick and lasting:* The treatment takes about an hour and results can last 6–8 weeks, making it ideal for busy schedules.
• *Versatile and safe:* Lash lifts suit most eye shapes and, when performed by a skilled technician, they won’t damage natural lashes.
**Cons**
• *Temporary results:* The lifted effect isn’t permanent. Clients need repeat treatments every 6–8 weeks to maintain the look.
• *Possible sensitivity:* The lifting solution can irritate sensitive skin, so patch tests are essential.
• *Skill dependent:* A quality result requires a trained artist. Poorly executed lifts can cause uneven curl or even lash damage.
• *Not for everyone:* Clients with extremely short, sparse or damaged lashes may not be candidates for lash lifts. In those cases, gentle extensions or a growth serum might be better options.
Lash lifts are a fantastic option for clients seeking a low‑maintenance, natural enhancement. When performed correctly, they provide beautiful curls that last for weeks.
